What is an ointment
Before perfumes as we know them today, there were ointments. That’s what they called them in ancient Rome and Greece: fatty-based preparations in which aromatic materials were dissolved. Resins, roots, flowers, woods. They were at the same time perfume, medicine and offering.
They haven’t changed that much.
An ointment is applied with the fingers, directly to the skin. The fatty base melts with body heat and releases the aroma slowly and continuously. It does not project outwards like a spray. It remains on the skin, accompanies, envelops.
It acts on the limbic system: the part of the brain that regulates emotions and memory. Without going through the rational filter. Without needing you to understand it to work.
